Holiday Gift Guide for the Crocheter in Your Life

**Disclaimer- These are only suggestions and you should always keep in mind tht everyone is different, with different taste, needs, and preference.**

  • Gift Cards (Amazon, Michael’s, JoAnns, Hobby Lobby, etc)

Contrary to popular belief, gift cards are not a cop-out for getting a physical, more “traditional” gift. Here’s why; some people prefer to buy their own things! For crafters especially, having that “extra money” is the best gift you can give for them to spend, as they please, at their favorite establishment. If you know the specific store they frequent, then go for it. Next time you’re checking out at the store, grab a card but make sure you present it nicely.

  • New crochet hooks

WARNING: only opt for this if you know of some they have been wanting

As a crocheter myself, I know all too well the nightmare of losing my favorite hook and then having to settle for a cheap version. Know what hooks they like? Have they been raving about a certain set on Amazon or Instagram? Go ahead and order one. Keep in mind that custom hooks do take time but if you can grab a quality hook(s), they will definitely be appreciated. Some examples of hooks or sets:

Tulip TP1166 Etimo Crochet Hook Set

Hestya 15 Pieces Wooden Bamboo Crochet Hooks Set

BeCraftee 12 Crochet Hook Set with Ergonomic Handles

CLOVER Soft Touch Crochet Hook (their favorite hook size or 3.75mm/4mm/4.5mm/5mm)

Susan Bates Silvalume Soft Handle Aluminum Crochet Hook (their favorite hook size or 3.75mm/4mm/4.5mm/5mm)

  • Yarn

Buy yarn. Popular yarn. New yarn. The yarn you’ve seen them work with or literally tell you that they love. When buying yarn, buy at least 3-4 skeins of the same or complementary colors because that will make it easier for your favorite crafter to make something great. If you have NO idea how to buy yarn then please ask or refer back to this post.

Some yarn basics:

Red Heart® Super Saver® Yarn

I Love This Yarn (exclusively at Hobby Lobby Stores)

Caron One Pound Yarn

Loops & Threads® Impeccable™ Yarn

**You can buy yarn from Walmart, however, it is best to go in the store to buy it because not all options (both cheap or otherwise) are available online. **

  • Tripod &Ring light/phone ring light

Like most people during this time, filming and recording may have become a greater part of your crafter’s everyday routine. Having a tripod can greatly help them film and/or photograph not only themselves but their items for various social media platforms. Crafters rely heavily on visuals, so you cannot go wrong with a good tripod!

Nothing makes a photo worse than some bad lighting! If your crafter is just starting out, or even if they have a whole production in house, having an additional ring light will never hurt. A couple of suggestions to get you started:

MOUNTDOG 18" Ring Light Kit 55W Bluetooth LED Ringlight Lighting with Tripod Stand

10” Selfie Ring Light with Tripod Stand and Phone Holder

  • Backdrop

Nothing is more distracting (& unprofessional) than having everything in the background of your house drawing focus away from the focal point of a picture! Backdrops can help with taking photos or even helping them step into making videos in the future if that is something that they want (or need) to do. If they have had a more DIY version of one, giving them an upgrade will give them that push to keep going and develop their skills.

  • Etsy gift card

Supporting other creatives is always a good thing and Etsy is one of those things that has to have its own part in this list. A virtual gift card for your crafter will help them buy some other digital goods to help them in their craft/business. These come in the amounts of $25/$50/$100/$250. So really, go wild with it.

  • Subscription to Netflix/Spotify/Audible

For viewing: NETFLIX

For music/podcasts; while the gift cards that are available for Spotify only work for individual accounts and not for the student, duo, or family plans. If they only have an individual account, the gift card will work for them.

*Spotify gift cards can be purchased at most major retail and electronic stores.

For books: Audible Gift center

  • New headphones

Going along with the last idea. MUSIC. Most crafters have something going on in the background. So maybe you don’t want to hear them listening to the Harry Potter series for the 7th time this year or the playlist you’ve heard too many times this week.

When choosing this option, just make sure you know what they like when it comes to comfort. Over-Ear or In-ear headphones.

TOZO T6 True Wireless Earbuds

SONY WHCH510/B Wireless On-Ear Headphones

  • Body pillow/ back pillow

Crafters generally, but crocheters specifically, are especially vulnerable to unique body aches as a consequence of our craft. Back & neck pain, in addition to any joint pains can wreak havoc on an otherwise content crocheter.

  • Cup warmer

Having a nice warm beverage while hookin’ away on a project sets the mood perfectly. After taking care of the house and other responsibilities, having everything ready to crochet into the dark hours include a cup of warmness, whatever that may be.

  • Favorite set of pens/notebooks

Taking notes is just as important as crocheting itself, especially for those that crochet for others. These items, like most, don’t have to be expensive, they just have to work (unless your crocheter is a notebook/pen snob, then find out what THEY  like in particular).

  • Google play store/Apple store GC

For purchasing in-app tools for productivity or for gaming in the downtime between crafting all the goodies.

(These can be purchased anywhere gift cards are available)

  • Warm Thangs: blankets, socks, hoodies…

Cuddled up with all the warm things, crochet and a good show/music, makes for a great night. Again, you know your crafter better than I do. So if yours, lives in a warmer part of the world, than you can definitely switch these out for more appropriate items.

  • YARNNNNN

Again, you can never go wrong with getting some yarn. Get it. All of it.

  • High-quality scissors

Good materials make the experience better and more enjoyable. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to cut yarn with some DULL scissors. Happy hooker, happy life.

Nothing better than not having to wind yarn by hand, or unravel old projects. Doesn’t have to be the most expensive one but also know if they have one already or not. Being able to store leftover yarn, or even the expensive great quality yarn is GOLDEN.
